Profile: Rhian is from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, and is a graduate harpist of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She received a scholarship to study for her postgraduate diploma at Trinity College of Music, for which she received a distinction. Rhian won second prize in the Junior World Harp Contest in1994, and is the beneficiary of many prestigious prizes including the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Clothworker’s Foundation, the Grace Williams Memorial Trust and Craxton Musical Trust.
Rhian works as a freelance harpist and has played most notably with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra, and was associate harpist to the West End musical My Fair Lady. Earlier this year she performed a concerto, Debussy’s Danses with Milton Keynes City Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia at the Cheltenham Festival. Rhian has given chamber music concerts at the Cheltenham International Festival, Brighton, Canterbury and Endellion Festivals.
