Repertoire: Folksong arrangements, traditional and modern carols, English part-songs and madrigals, light/popular music, songs from musicals and sacred music from the Renaissance to the present day. The group has performed newly-composed arrangements of popular Christmas songs in a jazz style by Will Drakett, and can commission new works where requested.
Trained: London & Oxbridge Universities, Birmingham Conservatoire, Royal Welsh School of Music and Drama, Guildford Cathedral, Portsmouth Cathedral & York Minster.
Profile: The Consort of Today is a critically acclaimed choral ensemble which provides opportunities for young singers as well as being a group of established, primarily of young professional musicians.
The ensemble’s commercial recordings have attracted international reviews and testimonials from leading publications including Gramophone. The singers have also featured on BBC1’s ‘Songs of Praise’, and various BBC radio programmes. The singers often work with established conductors and composers, most recently Eamonn Dougan (Associate Conductor of The Sixteen) and composer Margaret Rizza. They have performed at St. James Piccadilly, The Four Seasons Hotel (Mayfair) and Raymond Blanc’s ‘Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons’. In Europe, they have recently been involved in competitions and festivals in Spain, Italy, and the Czech Republic.
The Consort are well suited to performing for weddings, private functions and corporate events, where their diverse repertoire from traditional choral music to folk-songs, partsongs and popular arrangements offers a genuine choice of entertainment. Soloists, duos, and any number of singers up to the full choir may be booked as appropriate to the occasion, and instrumental accompaniment is easily arranged.
