Profile:  Tihai are an upmarket Sitar and Tabla Duo who will enhance elegant events. The joyous lyrical subtleties of the sitar playing, combined with rhythmic virtuosity of the tabla, has delighted and uplifted Tihai’s audiences wherever they have played. Their free improvisation, inspired by traditional melodies, evolves from a slow beginning and unfolds into complex rhythmic interplay. The emotional responses that they create evoke haunting atmospheres that are captivating, exciting and magical.The Sitar player was initially a residential pupil of Punita Gupta, disciple of Ravi Shankar. He continued to study Indian classical music by the traditional master/pupil method, eventually becoming proficient in the understanding and use of Rag and Tal (Melody and Rhythm), and with the improvisational techniques associated with Northern Indian classical music conventions. He continued to refine his technique under the supervision of Bengali sitar player, P. Gunguly. The Tabla player studied in Cardiff with Harjinder Singh Matharu, then returned to India where he learned from Shivanand Bhandari at the Naadashree Arts Institute in Kumta, Karnataka, India. Later he  studied with Kailash Nishad in Benares (Varanasi) in North India, a city renowned for the study of North Indian (Hindustani) music, and in 2000-05 he continued to study with Kailash Nishad in the UK.
